A Poor Girl’s Guide to Beach Holidays

It’s that time of year…..you and the girls are emptying your piggy banks and selling unwanted (unworn) dresses on ebay to afford a better hotel than the last (you know, the one where your shoes stuck to the floor, and yes, we’ve all been there).

But scrimping and saving the pennies isn’t easy when you’re a self-confessed party girl who just can’t say no to the lure of cocktails and all-night dancing….

Food in New York

Finding great food in New York City

Now I have to admit, finding quality cuisine in the US isn’t easy for a British girl. I may be wrong but we seem to have access to brilliant cooking with fine, healthy and fresh ingredients – something which seems lacking in America. New York was no different. But I was on a mission to find something to write home about.

Lunching at Harrods, London ♛

A luxury lunch at Harrods in London

Us ladies have to treat ourselves every so often, and it’s not every day I find myself lunching in London. So if I lunch at all, I may as well be chomping down on something really indulgent. Otherwise it’s just wasted calories, right?

With a few hours to kill before the Nelly.com launch party at Aqua, we decided that there was no grub quite like Harrods grub. Heaven for me. Absolute hell for my credit card.

Nobody Said Venice was Cheap…

Prices in Venice and how to save!

Nobody said that you’d be saving money here. Prices in Venice aren’t going to be the same as Zimbabwe but what did anyone expect? Venice is a beautiful and (to me) a very special city filled with some of my best memories. Every champagne cocktail was worth it and there’s just no other city quite like the slowly sinking Venice.

What to See in Edinburgh: Photo Diary

What to see in Ediburgh on a short stay weekend

Edinburgh is a beautiful city; it’s a surreal surrounding when you’re so close to the national fortress that is Edinburgh Castle. Built on an extinct volcano, the castle dominates the evening skyline as it lights up in all its regality and is an instantly recognised attraction when you visit the city. But the castle is just a part of what’s in store and you’ll never to be stuck wondering what to see in Edinburgh or where to go.

Haggis in Edinburgh: Whiski Rooms

Want to try haggis in Edinburgh?

I was desperate to. What’s the point in travelling all the way to Scotland (like a whole 4 hour drive, ha ha) if there was no a) haggis and b) tartan? We found the Whiski Rooms along our travels walking from our lush apartment overlooking Grassmarket down to the famous George Street.  Although I’d heard great things about The Witchery and Tigerlily, the Whiski Rooms just kept catching my eye.

Now everyone will tell you to go to The Dome. Every Edinburgh pubs guide / restaurant guide will give it top marks, and every tourist will have great things to brag about. Now, you’ll hear it from me: go to The Dome. Go there, go there, just simply go there. It’s beautiful.

Being Black (Camera Obscura Museum)

Being black, being Caucasian and a good old Oriental.

Who knew that one day I’d see myself in so many different forms? In another world, I could be a completely different person.  What would I look like? Where would I live? At the Camera Obscura Museum in Edinburgh, I got to see what things would be like if my Chinese mum, Christine didn’t meet my Chinese dad, Peter.

Camera Obscura Edinburgh: Museum of Illusions

Camera Obscura Edinburgh, a museum like no other.

I’ve always been drawn to the world of magic and illusions but never really spent much time studying all the tricks of the trade. Camera Obscura in Edinburgh is an interesting insight into something that simple minds – like my own – don’t easily comprehend.

Edinburgh’s Camera Obscura, just metres away from Edinburgh Castle, is quite possibly the best museum I have ever been to, and if you’re anything like me (short concentration span) then you’ll end up spending hours and hours in there!
